Midwifery Preceptor Capacity Assessment

Sector partners comprised of members and guests of the Ontario Midwifery Strategy Council (OMSC) have come together with a shared commitment to solve the problem of inadequate placements for learners as the pool of education providers has grown and evolved.

This survey is not a research study but an opportunity to better understand the current challenges and opportunities and to identify system‑level changes so that midwives feel valued and supported to effectively precept and all midwifery learners can obtain the midwifery clinical placement experience required for safe, competent entry‑to‑practice.  

Your honest input is essential. The information you provide will directly inform the discussions and solutions being developed. We know that supporting sustainable student placements will help the profession grow once again. We recognize that supporting an increased number of learners entering practice will ultimately support you by helping to fill vacancies across the province and that your preceptorship supports the development of strong future colleagues.

We ask all midwives to take 10 minutes to complete the survey including midwives who have not offered placements in the past year. In addition, all MPGs, EMCMs and IMPs are asked to identify one midwife to respond as the placement coordinator to complete 5 minutes of additional questions on behalf of their site.
